Club Background Information
History
- 1907 - Founders Meeting. Ten gentlemen met on May 4th at the pavilion in Recreation Ground, Bath. Decision made to invite 50 gentlemen to form the first bowling club in the city. To be known as the Bath Bowling Club affiliated to the West of England Bowling League.
Green to be on land rented from the Recreation Ground Company.
General Meeting at 13 Westgate Street. Mr J Hibbard elected President and Mr O Windbank, Captain. Formal Opening of the Club May 11th.
First Annual Dinner at Full Moon Hotel, Southgate Street. (Now replaced by the Electricity Works).
- 1908 - First AGM at Full Moon Hotel. Subscriptions raised to 1 guinea. Larger Green (5 rinks) at NE corner of Recreation Ground leased from Recreation Ground Company at £30 per year.
- 1912 - Clubhouse erected and rented from the Recreation Ground Company. Previously a tent was used for teas. Affiliated to EBA.
- 1947 - Lease of present position obtained for 21 years with option to purchase the land at £800.
- 1949 - Present green completed. Two greens available until lease of old green ended in 1953.
- 1951 - Present Clubhouse erected. Loans and gifts contributed by member. Cost approximately £1600.
- 1954 - First Club Tour to Torquay.
- 1957 - Golden Jubilee suitability celebrated.
- 1967 - Diamond Jubilee suitability celebrated.
- 1968 - Present ground purchased for £800.
- 1970 - Club Tours started on Annual Basis. Changing Rooms erected by members.
- 1976 - Clubhouse enlarged and refurbished.
- 1981 - New Scoreboard erected.
- 1982 - Clubhouse enlarged. New frontage built.
- 1984 - Automatic Watering System installed.
- 1985 - Flood-lighting installed.
- 1991 - Artificial grass banks built on the green.
- 1993 - Clubhouse toliets refurbished and entrance lobby added.
- 1997 - 90th Anniversary celebrated.
- 2000 - R J Doughty was appointed the First Club Chairman.
- 2005 - Clubhouse redevelopment and new changing facilities erected.
- 2007 - 100th Anniversary celebrated.
